Hard to believe how fast 2014 went by, but it seems as things get more and more busy, the faster time seems to pass. So many highlights from this past year, I've cut them down to just the very best of the best. The gallery clocks in at nearly 200 images, which I know is long for some people, but for everyone who keeps asking for more, this gallery is for you!
Included in the best of 2014: the beauty of Bali, Borneo's 'Best in the World' destination from National Geographic, the gin-clear coral reefs of Lembongan Island, a starry night and golden sunrise on Mount Bromo in Java, the hospitality and world-class cuisine of Melbourne, a tiny kingdom and the remote fishing villages of Maluku, the magic of Ubud's rice terraces, an ancient animistic society living the volcanic crater of Kintamani, Mega the future high priest of Uluwatu, summiting Southeast Asia's peak at Mount Kinabalu, the coral reefs and green sea turtles of Apo Island, my 'home away from home' in Dumaguete, the whale sharks of Cebu, the busy streets of Saigon, the sleepy fishing villages and beaches of Phu Quoc, the Outback of Western Australia, the bleeping and flashing streets of Tokyo, the tradition of Osaka, traversing the inland archipelago of Ehime by bicycle, the friendly people of Hiroshima, surfing the legendary lefts at Grajagan (G-Land) in Java, and much more.
I hope you enjoy this gallery as much as I enjoyed shooting it. Please feel free to share the photos with anyone you think might like them.
I'm so thankful for all the old and new friends and colleagues I've connected with in the past year - the experiences were amazing and I owe you all a huge thank you. Aside from all the assignments and adventures you see pictured here, I was honored to have my work included in National Geographic's newest coffee table book 'Stunning Photographs', which is a collection of the best photos from the society's best photographers. I'm so humbled to be included there with so many whose work I have admired for years. It was also great to work with Surfer's Journal on a feature story that I've been thinking about for quite some time - thanks again to the editors at TSJ for making that dream happen.
We're just in to 2015 and already it's turning out to be an exciting year, please stay tuned for more updates in the coming months - and of course the 'best of the best' gallery that comes out every January 🙂
Best,
Tommy
