What's it like to live in Bali?
Lazy travel writers use the old 'Bali is a land of contrasts' cliche, but that doesn't even come close to describing the island.
There's an incredible mix of Asian and Western cultures that really can't be found anywhere else. Centuries-old Balinese traditions dictate the pace of daily life from the jasmine incense offerings you'll smell as soon as you land at the airport to the annual Balinese Nyepi festival where the entire island (including the airport) are completely closed for 24 hours to honor the day. But against this foundation of Balinese culture, western influences like surfing and world-class international cuisine are blended, mixed, and re-invented to create one of the most eclectic travel destinations in the world.
I've been based here for several years now and I still feel like I'm only scratching the surface of what this place has to offer.
So instead of writing up a long and boring 'Land of Constrats' style travel article, I figured that showing you 25 of my favorites photos from Bali over the past three and a half years would be better. So here's the collection, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. Suffice to to say that Bali is an amazing place to visit and an even more amazing place to live. Keep an eye on this page because I'll be updating this gallery with more of my favorite shots from the 'Island of the Gods' sometime soon!
