Tropical fish are among my favorite subjects for underwater photography. In the course of more than a hundred dives around the Philippines and Bali, Indonesia, I’ve been fortunate to photograph clown fish, damsel fish, pipe fish, parrot fish, wrasses, jacks, trevally’s snappers, surgeon fish and more. My favorite variety of tropical fish has to be clown fish, but the other varieties can also make for dramatic underwater photography. Many are brightly colored, with shades of red, orange, yellow, blue, green, and purple that contrast nicely against a background of blue ocean.
