An archipelago composed of more than 7,000 islands, the Philippines has so many islands that there is some dispute over the exact count (the census judges are out on the issue of the high tide—some islands dip beneath the surface when the tide comes in). Some people even abbreviate the Philippines to call it the ‘PI’, or Philippine Islands. However you describe it, Philippine Islands make the Philippines what it is: one of the last places on earth you can have an island beach all to yourself.
