With two years of volunteer service behind me, 2006 was the year I finished my Peace Corps service in Dumaguete. This was also the year that I started the upward climb on the steep learning curve of digital photography. Luckily, I shot everything in the RAW format because my white balance adjustments in 2006 were really bad (unbelievably bad, actually!). I’ve been going back and fixing them, so any photos you see on the site now have been corrected. I put tens of thousands of shots on my Canon digital Rebel XT, and spent a lot of time underwater with the Elph S500 with the underwater case. Many shots from this year are among my favorites even today. Notable trips included a near-fatal sea kayaking trip on the Bacuit Archipelago near El Nido with Kris and Kristen, an invitation to dive Tubbataha reef from Angelique Songco and the Tubbataha Marine Park Rangers, a fiesta gig on Siquijor with Frying Nemo, a three-month adventure through Nepal, India, and Thailand at the close of my Peace Corps service, my first trips to surf Siargao in Mindanao, and a great Apo Island and Bohol visit from Alex and Megan just before I went back home to Virginia for the first time in more than two years.
