Our Sulawesi Pinisi dive boat was too big to maneuver around the dive sites so we used this little dingy to get back and forth from our dives.

The coral reefs of Komodo National Park are absolutely amazing. Located within the Coral Triangle, the biodiversity of species here is mindblowing. I can't even count how many different animals are in this single photo. I used a remote flash to fill in all the bright colors because I was too deep for the natural sunlight to make it.

Pretty easy to see why this species of tropical fish is called a 'sweet lips'. I came across this school conveniently grouped together under this bright red coral at about 30 meters. They obligingly hung around for a few 'sweet lipped' portraits. Ok, maybe that was kind of lame!

Also pretty easy to see why this fella is called a parrot fish. Certainly a lot easier to find in Komodo than a Parrothead. I got this photo in a shallow section of reef and lucked out with the great natural light to bring out the amazing colors of the parrot fish.

As Laure navigated this narrow undersea slot canyon, a sizeable sweetlips swam into the frame. As they say, it's better to be lucky than good!

The shallower sections of the Komodo reef are absolutely amazing with a living confetti of damselfish and wrasses swirling around the hard and soft coral. I must have spent a half hour just in this one area trying to capture the mind-blowing beauty of hte place.

Komodo is also a reliable place to find rare and endangered sea turtle species like this hawksbill. I took this photo in about ten meters during our late afternoon dive when the sunbeams were slanting beautifully at an angle, bathing the reef in beautiful light. Getting lucky with this turtle turning towards the camera right as I snapped the frame was definitely a good thing too!

Unicorns might be tough to find in real life, but you definitely have a shot at coming across a unicorn fish like this one from Komodo National Park.

This octopus was almost perfectly concealed when I spotted it starting to lurk out of it's lair in this coral outcrop. I waited a few more minutes for it to come out almost completely before I shot this frame.

Lots of whitetip sharks around the deeper sections of reef in Komodo. This one was resting at about 25 meters as I remember...

These things can apparently take off one of your fingers pretty easily so it's best to keep out of strking range. Didn't seem to bother the little shrimp in the bottom left of the frame though!

Komodo's equivalent of the dentist's office. In this photo a sweetlips gets polished up at a cleaning station. Don't think my dentist would particularly like to eat what might be in between my teeth like this fellow does though...

Underwater Photography Gallery: Liveaboard Dive Trip to Komodo National Park
We did one night dive in Komodo National Park and this is the only photo I got. Why didn't I shoot more? Well, it's because I kept turning off the flashlight to wave my hands in front of my scuba mask and watch the psychedelic starlines of the bioluminescent plankton. It was like... constellations coming out of my fingers... maaaaaan!
